Game Critics Awards Winner
Rockband, which took the gaming world by storm in late 2007, was followed by the highly-anticipated sequel, Rockband 2 that was released in September of 2008. With Rockband 2 came Ion's Drum Rocker Set, which quickly took the Game Critics Awards top spot in 2008's Best Peripheral/Hardware category.

Professional-Grade Aluminum Rack and Pads
While other drum controllers force you to use their configuration with a pre-molded, plastic array, the Drum Rocker's professional-grade aluminum rack lets you position your snare, tom and cymbal pads the way you want. Not only can you play your hi-hat with a right-hand crossover by placing your cymbals anywhere around your kit, but by mounting your pads to the drum rack with the included metal L-arm and clamp system, you can tilt, swivel, raise and lower the cymbals to whatever position you want.

Drum Rocker's velocity-sensitive drum pads feature an ultra-quiet playing surface and a more natural and consistent stick rebound than your average pad. The pad housing is made of a hi-impact plastic, which means that no matter how much you punish them night after night, they will always be ready for more.

The Drum Rocker's all-metal kick drum pedal is also designed to take abuse. It offers the perfect amount of tension to replicate the feeling of a real drum pedal. And keeping in line with its set-up flexibility, the kick drum pedal comes with Velcro and retractable spikes, allowing you to place it in the most comfortable position.

Go Beyond Gaming into Real Music
Built by the engineers at Alesis, one of the largest manufacturers of professional electronic drums in the world, the Drum Rocker Premium Drum Set delivers the most realistic drumming experience available to a gamer.

But when you're ready to move from playing the game to playing in a real life, you can swap the game controller module with one of the professional drum brains made by Alesis, such as their DM5 drum module, or any other drum brain that accepts a quarter-inch output. (Drum modules are sold separately.) And with the option of purchasing a third cymbal, you can round out your kit and move beyond gaming and onto the stage.

The Drum Rocker Premium Drum Set is compatible with both Rockband and Rockband 2 for the Xbox 360.

The Drum Rocker comes with cymbals, kick pedal, and drum pads.

What's in the Box:
Aluminum drum rack, 4 drum pads, 2 cymbals, drum pedal, all mounting hardware and connecting cords, and 2 drumsticks.

Product Description
Drum Rocker delivers the most realistic drumming experience available to any gamer, regardless of platform. That's because it was built by the engineers at Alesis, one of the largest manufacturers of professional electronic drums in the world. As a result, you get a kit that's designed to take a real beating, with all the positioning flexibility that professional drummers demand. While other drum controllers lock you down to a pre-molded plastic array of pads, Drum Rocker's professional aluminum drum rack lets you position your snare, tom and cymbal pads wherever you want. When you're ready to move from playing Rock Band to playing in a rock band, you can swap the game controller module with one of the professional drum brains made by Alesis, and you're ready to hit the road for real! Drum Rocker's velocity-sensitive drum pads feature a playing surface that is much quieter than other drum controllers. They also feel great ? the stick rebound off of the pad is much more natural and consistent than anything else available. The pad housing is made of high-impact plastic, designed to be whacked on stage night after night. No matter how much you punish them, the Drum Rocker drum pads can take it. Complete the experience with up to three cymbals. There's nothing like finishing a monster fill by whacking a crash cymbal. Or crossing over to play your hi-hat with your right hand while you keep the backbeat on the snare with your left. Or keeping time on a ride cymbal during the chorus. Drum Rocker lets you do all that and more, with cymbals that can be placed anywhere around the kit. Drum Rocker comes with two cymbals and mounting hardware out of the box, and a third cymbal is available as an optional accessory. You get to decide how you want to use the two cymbals that come with the kit ? set them up as a hi-hat/crash, crash/ride or hi-hat/ride combination, then add the third cymbal to round out the kit.

5 out of 5 stars Best Rock Band Drums Ever!   February 1, 2010
J. Misquez (Seattle, WA)
First let me start off by saying I am not a drummer so this is a review from a layman's point of view.

I started playing Rockband about 6 months ago and I started out with the RB1 drum set. I then upgraded to the RB2 drum set and I recently purchased the Drum Rocker set.

Pros: Build Quality
Drum Accuracy (No missed hits)
Feel (These drums feel great to play)
Rebound (You get a lot of rebound off of the drum head)
Sensitivity (Even very light hits register)
Easy Setup (about 45min but that's because there is so much customization possible)
Compact (they actually fold up to about the same size as the RB2 drums)
Metal Drum Pedal (It's not going to break like my RB2 pedal did)

Cons: I really only have one con and its very small and trivial. I would like to see a bottom brace on the bottom of the rack that you could hook the drum pedal to so it wouldn't slide around as much and so it would brace the drums better. It's not a big deal at all, but it would make the setup a little better if you ask me.

If you are a longtime drummer or a beginner like myself, you will LOVE these drums. They are a little pricey compared to the RB1 and RB2 drums but you absolutely get you moneys worth. I would recommend these drums to anyone. I am a hardcore fan already and I have only had them a few days!

I hope this helps!

4 out of 5 stars Almost perfect   January 31, 2010
Gerald Salvatico (DeLand, FL)
I purchased this set a few months ago and waited to review it until I had really had enough time with it. When I first put it together, the drum set was a little overwhelming. There are so many configurations and options that you may wish it was more limited so you can play right away. Other reviewers see this as a negative but I was extremely impressed with the customization available. Yes, it takes time to set up properly, but you will be glad that you can set it exactly as you want it. Overall the quality is top notch. The drum pads are relatively quiet with great bounce which helps tremendously when playing multiple fast notes. The pads have a large strike area and I find myself hitting the plastic housing much less. The cymbals are similarly high quality. I greatly enjoy hitting the correct sensor (pad/cymbal) depending on the contents of the song being played, although the game will accept either one as long as it is the correct color. The bass pedal, however, is another story. The pedal is solid metal and feels extremely sturdy. The good news is that this thing will never break. The bad news is that it is not a chain-driven pedal, and lacks the proper amount of bounce. This is the only reason for lack of a 5-star rating. Shame on ion for not including a proper pedal. I might get a double bass add-on in the future to compensate. The sticks included are ok, but I have a tendency to lose them when my hands sweat so I would recommend some Vic Firth sticks with varnish coating, that's what I got and they are a cheap way to really improve the experience. The only other consideration is that the set is quite large, so only get it if you have room to spare, or if you don't care that you have a toy the size of a dresser in your living room.

In summary, if you are looking to take the next step in drumming, I would highly recommend this set as long as you can overlook the mediocre bass pedal, and again I would recommend some professional sticks too.

4 out of 5 stars Feels like for real   January 6, 2010
Joshua Patsey (Denver, CO)
I was so excited to get this kit, and I'm not dissapointed in it.

The stock picture shows it set up like the rock band drums, but I assure you, you can put anything almost anywhere you want. The pads feel amazing and are much quieter and responsive. This thing is a lot of fun if you love the drums on rock band.

The 2 things i don't like
The cymbals don't seem as responsive as the pads are. Hi-hat rolls don't seem to register very well
The kick pedal is disapointing. better than the stock RB pedal, but the spring feels underpowered and it doesn't feel real.

Other than that, I LOVE this kit.

5 out of 5 stars Pretty Darn Good   September 12, 2009

I've read a lot of reviews on this bad boy the past year and finally decided to purchase it. The drums operate perfectly and if you are a casual gamer there will be no problem with the pedal. To me, it works just fine and I press down pretty hard on it (I'm a stomper). If you've been debating on pulling the trigger on this guy, debate no longer. If you are skilled with your hands it takes fifteen to twenty minutes to put together, and the instructions aren;t vague as others have let on, they are just pictures with small descriptions, but it's pretty hard to mess up. As far as the cymbals, I'm not as advanced as others, but have found angling them helps you to crash through as others have stated. Also, loosening the nut for them helps give it that cymbal "feel" also. I'm glad I bought these and I promise you will enjoy them too!!!

4 out of 5 stars Not perfect, but still tons of fun.   August 12, 2009

I've had one of these for a couple of months now, and decided to hold off on writing up a review until I've had a decent amount of experience with this drum kit. After a couple months of playing, I can safely say that this is an enjoyable, if a little flawed, product. Rather than go into tons of detail, I'll just outline some of the pros and cons I've had with this kit:

Pros:
- You can pretty much adjust it however you'd like. The only downside to adjusting it is, you're not given *too* much flexibility if you're planning on using it with Rock Band, so my kit is arranged similarly to the default Rock Band drum kit.
- Very sensitive drum pads. If you miss a note, you'll know it was because of personal error, not because of a faulty drum pad.
- Nice kick pedal. I know a lot of people have problems with this, but if you're used to using the default Rock Band kick pedal, this is a significant improvement. First and foremost, the pedal and its base are constructed entirely of metal, so there are no worries whatsoever about it breaking or snapping in half. Don't be fooled into buying the Rock Band 2 drum kit because of the metal-reinforced kick pedal, as only the pedal itself is reinforced, which has led to problems with the plastic base snapping in half. In addition, it's also now much easier to successfully hit faster bass drum sections than it ever was on the stock Rock Band Kit.
- The pads are much, much quieter than the regular Rock Band drum kit. It's nice to actually be able to hear the music over all the drum beating for a change.

Cons:
- The cymbols are loaded with problems. One of the cymbols sometimes doesn't register hits, and I've noticed similar (albeit less extreme) problems with the other one. They're also very loud in comparison to the drum pads, and I'm not quite sure I like the feel of hitting them very much. It's a pretty unfortunate problem, as it pretty much counteracts the amazing quality of the drum pads. I know that the cymbols are extra and aren't necessary, but it'd be nice if they made them feel like more than just extras.
- Velocity sensitivity doesn't work with Rock Band 2 like it's supposed to. I'm not actually going to mark down the score of the drum kit because of this, because I know it's a problem with the game and not the drum kit itself. The drum kit does indeed have velocity sensitivity, but for some reason Harmonix released a patch that turned off the velocity sensitivity in the ION Drum Rocker. I read somewhere that they're planning on fixing it eventually, so I'm looking forward to that. Until then, drum fills sound very robotic and clunky due to the lack of velocity sensitivity in the game.

I would recommend this to anyone who plays Rock Band drums a couple times a week and is possibly interested in learning to play a real electronic drum set (though you would need the separately sold drum module for that), and has a bit of extra money to throw around. If you don't mind the fact that the cymbols aren't of the highest quality, it's an otherwise great drum kit for the price.
