Dongle sadness June 4, 2010 David A. Moffatt (Calgar, Alberta) I really enjoyed using my Peak Starpex Obsidian controller for about 5 months or so. Aside from a poor up-strum, the guitar worked great. I always played with the solo buttons but I tried out the regular buttons and they seemed to work just fine. Then one day my ps3 dongle stopped working. It would power the guitar but it wouldn't recognize it as a controller. I felt sad and emailed to people at Peak about acquiring a replacement but the never got back to me. Then their website went down. I bought another ps2/ps3 adapter and it recognized the guitar as a controller, but not a guitar controller. I've searched out other ps2 guitar adapters and have read that firmware update 2.7 (or something like that) has rendered many adapters useless so I've been hesitant on buying more adapters as a collection of ps2/ps3 dongles really does me no good.
An OK PS3 Guitar Hero Wireless Controller May 19, 2010 A.M.L. (Texas) I've had this controller now for 9 months and therefore I feel qualified to give it the following review: While it is made to give the look and feel of a full sized real guitar, it is quite heavy for prolonged play. Mainly due to its weight, my daughter and I prefer to use other guitar controllers when playing Guitar Hero. Also, after a while, the strum bar starts to squeek. It is very annoying. It feels like there is a spring that needs some WD40. Other than those two things, the controller performes very well. Some might say that the weight is to be expected from a controller made out of solid wood, however, I also have a similar controller by Logitech (which I don't think is availabe any longer and which was the first one of this type) also made out of solid wood, but which feels lighter and therefore, is not as tiring. Because of the weight and strum bar squeekiness, I had to give it 3 stars. :)
PEAK OBSIDIAN IS WACK! December 24, 2009 karlosfreaker 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This guitar was purchased after reading many positive reviews;... and to my dismay, it just flat out doesn't work. The solo frets do work, but consistency is an issue. I could only get the green and orange buttons to work after reading and configuring all possibilities with my PS3. I was using both ROCK BAND AND ROCK BAND 2 on expert mode. I think i will just buy the ROCK BAND original guitar as my next replacement. Very sad,and 100 dollars lost. Do yourself a favor and don"t buy this.
Great Idea, poor execution November 1, 2009 P. Pleasants (Minneapolis, MN USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have been looking for a sturdy, hard to break guitar controller for awhile, and I stumbled across this product. The description is tantalizing. The price is close to the official guitars. After ordering one, I was impressed with its' looks and the weight - this thing is heavy! I loved it until I plugged it in. It works....somewhat. It has an annoying tendency to play the note and then drop it - resulting in cut off sustained notes. I was getting credit for hitting them, but the sound was choppy. I used the enclosed wire connection to achieve the same result. After some use, even some of the reasons I bought it for started grating on me - the weight gets heavy fast and the (almost) full size stretched out my arm farther than I was used to and felt bulky compared to the cheap Guitar Hero guitars. I guess there is a very good reason they make them so small. So guess what - I went back to the cheap plastic Guitar Hero guitars, even though I usually beat the you-know-what out of them within 6 months. So now when friends come over, they all want to play the Starpex and I (ahem) let them! Someone make a heavy duty guitar controller, please.
Do not buy this guitar October 19, 2009 M. Schettler (Minneapolis, MN USA) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Do not buy this guitar if you are using the PS3 slim. It is not supported and they have no plans to support it.
